The GLC is an intercultural living and learning environment for 22 Georgetown undergraduate students, both international and U.S. citizens. Located on the 2nd floor of Copley Hall, the GLC is a part of Georgetown's Living and Learning Communities Program. The primary goal of the GLC is to create a community in which intercultural understanding extends beyond the classroom into daily student life. For more information about the GLC, please contact Stephanie Hertz.
GLC activities include:
The GLC begins the year with a weekend retreat off campus. Members get to know one another through interactive games, cultural exercises, and outdoor activities, as well as plan for community events and activities throughout the year.
Each month, a member of Georgetown's faculty is invited to share dinner and conversation about current international issues. International Reviews broaden knowledgeof international affairs and provide an opportunity to interact with faculty outside the classroom setting.
GLC residents participate in a variety of service activities in and around the D.C. community. Some activities include environmental cleanups, a visit to D.C. public schools, and to participate in GU UNICEF's Fall Festival.
In January, the GLC gathers for a day-long retreat to reflect on their experiences thus far and plan for events in the spring semester.
Two or three times per semester, the GLC floor residents organize an evening of food, art, and music to highlight the culture of one ethnicity or region of the world represented on the floor.
The GLC members for the academic year 2008-2009 created a Powerpoint presentation detailing their experiences throughout the year. For a closer look at the GLC, please see the slideshow!
