Transfers

If a student decides to transfer from Georgetown University to another U.S. institution, s/he must contact the International Student (IS) Advisor at Georgetown and the IS Advisor at the new institution for details on the transfer process. 

- F-1 students who intend to transfer-out must complete the F-1 Transfer-Out Form. 
- J-1 students who intend to transfer-out must complete the J-1 Transfer-Out Form.

A student who plans to transfer to Georgetown University from another U.S. institution must contact the IS Advisor at the current institution and determine a transfer release date. 

- F-1 students who intend to transfer-in must complete the F-1 Transfer-In Form. 
- J-1 students who intend to transfer-in must complete the J-1 Transfer-In Form.

Graduating students in F-1 status beginning a new program of study must transfer their immigration status within the 60 day grace period following successful completion of the current program of study or period of authorized Optional Practical Training (OPT).  Graduating students in J-1 status must transfer their immigration status within the 30 day grace period following successful completion of the current program of study or period of authorized Academic Training (AT).  Mid-program students must transfer their immigration status prior to the last day of the add/drop period for the next required semester at Georgetown.  Please see your IS Advisor to discuss the transfer process. 

Scholar Transfers
J-1 scholars who intend to transfer from Georgetown University to another U.S. institution must complete a J-1 Scholar Transfer-Out Form. Scholars must complete the transfer process prior to beginning their program at the new institution.

J-1 scholars who intend to transfer to Georgetown University from another U.S. institution must complete the transfer before beginning their Georgetown program.  J-1 scholars must complete the J-1 Scholar Request Form with the interested Georgetown host Department.
