US-VISIT Program
The US-VISIT (United States Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator Technology) Program is a system that is used at ports of entry for processing the documents of non-immigrants (citizens of Canada are exempt from US-VISIT). When international visitors enter the United States, they are automatically processed in the system. When visitors leave the United States, the departure is also registered through US-VISIT. The data collected from F, J or M visa holders will be forwarded to SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System), confirming that the person has entered or exited the United States.
The US-VISIT program adds the following aspects to the process of entry:
Entering the United States:
U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) officers review travel documents and ask questions about the visitor’s stay in the United States. CBP officers then scan the fingerprints of the visitor’s index fingers on an inkless scanner and take a digital photograph.
